Disconnect and reconnect the car battery (for this model it's in the trunk) for a 'hard reboot' (don't know why they call it that way) Pop-out the radio set and re-plug in the harness with the battery connected and disconnected. Vw Rns 510 Firmware Update
Hi all,
New to the forum and hoping for a solution.
I bought(I think now rather stupidly) a 2007 RNS 510 of eBay that was advertised as only booting to splash screen and nothing else. I thought how hard can it be to fix, so in for a penny out with a pound.
When I got my hands on it a connected it to my 2008 passat high line, it turns out that it keeps rebooting. As I've read on the forum I tried the soft reset to no avail and also managed to download a copy of a SWL recovery disc. After tinkering with the SWL program the splash screen is no longer showing(just the black screen with lights behind it)
I'm beginning to think I've bitten off more than I can chew and before I throw I the towel and sell I on for spares I thought I try here. I'm hoping that that isn't the case as I've probably got carried away with what I paid.
Things concerning me:
Do I need to program the rns 510 to my passat?
Would a updated firmware help? If so which?
I downloaded the swl disc from I think Joslin? I extracted the files and burnt the files to DVD at 4x speed. I pressed setup/eject/I to get the swl screen and poped the DVD in. I'm not sure I've copied the correct files to DVD.
Feel a complete Buffon and hope someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Tom
